The Selangor Public Library Corporation / Perbadanan Perpustakaan Awam Selangor (PPAS) was established through the Selangor Public Library Corporation enactment in 1968 and gazetted in Government Gazette No. 5, dated March 27, 1969, Government Gazette No. 7, 1975 (amendment) and Government Gazette No. 29,2011 (amendment).

In 1971, the Board of Directors of the Selangor Public Library Corporation was formed to start a public library in Selangor. The first step in this direction was the acquisition of the Kuala Lumpur Book Club on 20 October 1971 to be used as the Selangor Public Library Corporation Headquarters.

This library then moved to Shah Alam on 16 November 1986 and was named Raja Tun Uda Library (RATU). The design of the State library building is taken inspiration from Bugis culture, while the interior design is a clash of Eastern and Western cultures. This building contains six floors and has an area of ​​102,545 square feet where 40,420 square feet is the reading room which is estimated to accommodate more than 1,000 readers at a time. The shelves can accommodate 250,000 books.

The library was opened to the public on 18 April 1987 and was officially opened on 15 March 1988 by AlMarhum Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Alhaj Ibni AlMarhum Sultan Hisamuddin Alam Shah Alhaj. The Raja Tun Uda Library is a State Library which is also the headquarters of the Selangor Public Library Corporation.

The headquarters of the Selangor Public Library Corporation has moved once again to a new building located in Section 13, Shah Alam. This library is a gift from His Majesty Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj Ibni Almarhum Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Alhaj, Sultan of Selangor to the people of Selangor in conjunction with the declaration of "Selangor Maju 2005". The launch of this library site was completed on 27 August 2005 as a landmark for Selangor Maju 2005.

This library was opened on July 22, 2011 which has 6 levels in total, an area of 203,600 square feet and can accommodate 2,500 people at a time. The State Library functions to administer, maintain and coordinate libraries throughout the State of Selangor. At the same time, it operates as the Selangor Public Library Corporation Headquarters.

Since its establishment in 1971, the Selangor Public Library Corporation has moved in line with the vision of the Selangor State Government and until now the Selangor Public Library Corporation has 104 service centres throughout the State of Selangor.
