CHAIRMAN’S MESSAGE

Peace be upon you and good day.

YAB Dato' Seri Amirudin bin Shari Dato' Menteri Besar of Selangor is also Chairman of the Selangor Public Library Corporation

Today, visitors to the Selangor Public Library no longer come to the library just to borrow books, complete assignments, or review lessons, even the Selangor Public Library succeeds in doing more than that.

The Selangor Public Library Corporation has become a one-stop centre that acts as a bridge for the people in Selangor to explore space and opportunities to drive value creation and human capital development in the State of Selangor. This is an important component in producing outstanding Selangor people who are capable of becoming a valuable asset as well as contributing to this beloved state.

I wish that the Selangor Public Library Corporation can consolidate efforts to dignify the education sector including activating research space, socio-economic development and socio-cultural development, adding a new core in the elements of education and research, and not only focusing on the traditional nature of libraries which are storage and borrowing just a book.

Ralph Waldo Emerson said that "there is no knowledge that is not power".

The Selangor Public Library Corporation, as the backbone of the Selangor State government in terms of education, succeeded in upholding the position of knowledge while realising one of the strategies of the Selangor State Government Budget, which is to plan an excellent education agenda.

Ibn Khaldun through his work, Muqaddimah, put forth a theory known as Umran, which is often associated with civilization or civilization. However, Umran also includes prosperity. This includes the desire to develop pious souls who are able to lead Umran or civilization.

Knowledge and wisdom are a strength. People with knowledge, wisdom and integrity are the source of strength for this country. Knowledgeable people will make Selangor a superior state. Because of that, we put a lot of effort into ensuring access to education for all levels of society.

Nothing is impossible to achieve if we persevere, be wise and try hard to achieve the ideal. We are ready to break all the obstacles that are an obstacle to the progress and stability of the state.

I pray that the people of Selangor will be given the strength and determination to preserve the treasures of education for future generations.

YAB Dato' Seri Amirudin bin Shari
Dato' Selangor Menteri Besar cum
Chairman of the Selangor Public Library Corporation

DIRECTOR’S MESSAGE
YBhg. Datin Paduka Mastura Hj Muhamad, D.S.I.S. Pengarah Perbadanan Perpustakaan Awam Selangor (PPAS)

Peace be upon you and good day.

Year 2022 is already behind us.

Year 2023 has a lot of question marks, and this means there are heaps of areas and opportunities for improvement, be it for individuals, families as well as organizations.

The past experiences give us insight on what mistakes not to repeat and which best practices we can carry on. As said by the poet, T.S. Eliot, “Every moment is a fresh beginning.”

For us at Selangor Public Library Corporation, year 2022 is where we learnt again in providing library services to facilitate people to bounce back from the challenges and the situations faced in year 2020-2021, in the form of physical facilities, reading and reference materials, as well as programmes and activities that have the potential to help the societies generate income.

Selangor Public Library now focuses on 5 key areas which are what the societies need― when we plan and execute upgrading projects, and provide facilities and programmes:

1
Financial freedom
2
Career
3
Family
4
Health
5
Spirituality.

As such, Selangor Public Library has re-positioned its functions to become:

    1
    A second home
    2
    A learning centre
    3
    A meeting point
    4
    A recreational centre
    5
    A human development centre.

We hope that for year 2023, all the experiences, lessons learnt, and all your feedbacks will help us improve our library services. A public library is a sanctuary and akin to oxygen―neutral, colourless and it’s for all. As such, the benefits of having a public library must be accessible to be enjoyed by all walks of life and all age groups in Selangor State particularly, and Malaysia generally.
