CHAIRMAN’S MESSAGE

Peace be upon you and please to meet you.

YAB Dato' Seri Amirudin bin Shari Dato' Menteri Besar of Selangor is also Chairman of the Selangor Public Library Corporation

Today, visitors to the Selangor Public Library no longer come to the library just to borrow books, complete assignments, or review lessons, even the Selangor Public Library succeeds in doing more than that.

The Selangor Public Library Corporation has become a one-stop centre that acts as a bridge for the people in Selangor to explore space and opportunities to drive value creation and human capital development in the State of Selangor. This is an important component in producing outstanding Selangor people who are capable of becoming a valuable asset as well as contributing to this beloved state.

I wish that the Selangor Public Library Corporation can consolidate efforts to dignify the education sector including activating research space, socio-economic development and socio-cultural development, adding a new core in the elements of education and research, and not only focusing on the traditional nature of libraries which are storage and borrowing just a book.

Ralph Waldo Emerson said that "there is no knowledge that is not power".

The Selangor Public Library Corporation, as the backbone of the Selangor State government in terms of education, succeeded in upholding the position of knowledge while realising one of the strategies of the Selangor State Government Budget, which is to plan an excellent education agenda.

Ibn Khaldun through his work, Muqaddimah, put forth a theory known as Umran, which is often associated with civilization or civilization. However, Umran also includes prosperity. This includes the desire to develop pious souls who are able to lead Umran or civilization.

Knowledge and wisdom are a strength. People with knowledge, wisdom and integrity are the source of strength for this country. Knowledgeable people will make Selangor a superior state. Because of that, we put a lot of effort into ensuring access to education for all levels of society.

Nothing is impossible to achieve if we persevere, be wise and try hard to achieve the ideal. We are ready to break all the obstacles that are an obstacle to the progress and stability of the state.

I pray that the people of Selangor will be given the strength and determination to preserve the treasures of education for future generations.

DIRECTOR’S MESSAGE

YBhg. Datin Paduka Mastura Hj Muhamad, D.S.I.S. Pengarah Perbadanan Perpustakaan Awam Selangor (PPAS)

Peace be upon you and please to meet you.

This message was recorded when our country, and even the whole world, is still affected by the Covid-19 pandemic that begins at the end of 2019. Library facilities have been closed and reopened several times alternately, in accordance with the latest Movement Control Order enforced by the government.

We are trying to gather ideas and find ways to introduce alternative services that still connect the community with the library, because we know this is one of our small contributions to help the community affected by this pandemic, whether in terms of economy or mental and emotional health.

For us at the library, when we look back at the atmosphere of the library which used to be lively with visiting patrons from all age groups, it has now changed to quiet and desolate. "The whole earth stops when nature takes over the earth," as illustrated through our montage video in the Jom Baca Bersama 2020 program.

This pandemic has been going on for a year. Various new norms and SOPs were introduced by the Malaysian Ministry of Health and the National Security Council to control the spread of the virus. However, the pandemic has not only affected the health aspect of the community, it also causes all activities including in the field of education to be done through online methods. We are all aware that not all groups, especially the B40 group, are able to provide all the equipment necessary for online class (PDPR), thus causing the children of this group to drop out. Therefore, we are trying to identify affected children to get donations of used computers that have been improved for their class use, complete with camera devices, audio, internet line, tables and chairs that are comfortable to use during class. The amount needed far exceeds the amount that can be supplied. Therefore, we call on all individuals, government and private agencies, NGO associations, to join hands with us to fill this void.

We still do not give up on providing the best service for the community even though the number of cases reported in the country is still high.

This is the most appropriate time for us together to help the Selangor State Government plan steps and strategies from each corner and capacity in overcoming the various crises that arise due to the spread of the epidemic. In addition, make sure you take the vaccine to ensure herd immunity can be improved, and strictly follow the SOPs even after being vaccinated.

Finally, we pray that Allah Ta'ala will make your affairs easier. All our efforts certainly need the grace and permission of the Creator. Let us all pray with full confidence that the Almighty God will remove all these viruses and epidemics from the face of the earth, amen.
