“Tahukah Anda” – Behind the Scenes

“Tahukah Anda” – Behind the Scenes

Slide 1: Intro

New books ready to undergo their ‘journey’

There are librarians you don’t see behind the counter to lend or receive the books you borrow. The operation behind a library is rather extensive. Here’s a sneak peek into one operation.

New books first make their way to our Documentation Unit/Collection Management Section. Our team from this unit/section plays a vital role in ensuring that all books are prepared using a scientific method for the ease of users.

📦Step 1: Catalog and Classify📦

  • Upon receiving new books, our team catalogs and classifies them according to the library’s classification system.
  • Each book gets a unique catalog entry to ensure it’s easy to find in the library system.

🔍Step 2: Check, Stamp, and Barcode🔍

  • Next, we carefully check each book for any damage.
  • We stamp the library’s name and add a barcode for tracking and easy check-out.

Slide 4: Spine and Information Labels

📑Step 3: Spine Labeling📑

– We print and stick a spine label with the book’s call number for easy shelf identification.

– An information label with the book’s details is also printed and adhered inside the cover.

📅Step 4: Return-date Slips 📅

– Finally, we paste a a return-date slip to remind readers when to bring the book back.

📖 And that’s how new books are prepared for our shelves! 📖
